ICEA mainly specilizes in the following mediums :
Research and Development
-Kangra vernacular Readaptaptation: The construction techiques used by the Kangra valley people have been brought to prominence by Didi Contractor and have been readapted in various projects like Dharmalaya Institute, Sambhaavna Institute and Bagli. We promote the use of these techniques, training new artisans and incorporating these vernacular materials according to our contemporary needs for better development.
-Acknowledging the essence of vernacular and how it functions by documenting Norbulingka Monastry and a traditional village near Andretta in Himachal Pradesh where we aim to promote their vernacular and convert it into an Artist’s village.
Our projects with Mud
-MISAAL cottage in our centre is one of the prototypes where we have put all our research into implementation. The cottage is made of adobe, thatch roof made out of weeds growing near the site, bamboo and wood. All the furniture, light fixures and even the tiles used in the kitchen have been made on site from all natural materials.
Education
-We aim to empower students to learn to build on their own through workshops, site visits, documentation and educational tours. All programmes running in ICEA are under MISAAL( Maati Initiatives for Sustainable Art Architecture and Lifestyle), a non-profit venture of ICEA, where different courses are available for training under art, architecture and lifestyle including long term training courses, short term courses, weekend workshops, visits to our sites to study ongoing work, lectures and documentation projects.
-Under ICEA, we also guide and encourage students who are looking towards researching on building techniques and vernacular knowledge.
-We are also introducing a one-year intensive training programme for fresh graduates on professional practice.
